Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (IFD) – Entry route to UK and International Undergraduate University courses.

The Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) formally called the International Foundation Year (IFY) is a one year pre-university qualification which includes a significant degree of English language teaching. The qualification is designed to provide an entry route to UK and international university courses or progression onto the NCC Education Level 4 Diplomas in Computing, Business and Business IT.

The course provides progression to university degrees in areas of Business and Computing. Developed in collaboration with UK Universities it can be offered 1 year full-time or part-time over 2 or 3 years. The program is accompanied by a comprehensive set of teaching and learning materials for the classroom. Students who complete the L3IFDHES will have guaranteed entry to the following universities in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Canada, USA and Australia:

  • Bangor University
  • Birmingham City University
  • Carroll University
  • CQU University
  • Limerick Institute of Technology
  • Liverpool Hope University
  • National College of Ireland
  • University of Derby

There are in total over 70 University progression routes for students to choose from on successful completion of this program.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the NCC Education L3IFDHES qualification students must have at least one of the following:

Students must have successfully completedsecondary school education.

OR1 GCE ‘O’ Level Pass

Students must also meet the English language entry requirements of:

  • IELTS minimum score of 4.5 or ESOL B1

OR

  • GCE ‘O’ Level English D7 or above

Assessment

Assessments for all units will be offered in a minimum of four assessment cycles throughout the year. The units are assessed by either written examination or assignment. A unit is passed when an overall mark of 40% or more is achieved.

Duration

The qualification is designed to be studied full-time over one academic year or part-time over two to three years.

Total Qualification Time 120 credits (1200 hours)

Guided Learning Hours: 663

Candidates must pass all core Units and two electives units to be awarded the Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies certificate.

Delivery Method

The qualification is taught face-to-face through lectures, tutorials and seminars.

Upon successful completion of the L3IFDHES, candidates can:

  • Apply to one of the over 50 universities worldwide which directly recognize the L3IFDHES
  • Apply for guaranteed entry route with UK universities
  • Continue on to one of the Education Degree Pathways – Level 4

Level 4 have the following three options;

1. Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology (L4DBIT)

2. Level 4 Diploma in Business (L4DB)

3. Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC)

Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology (L4DBIT)

The Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology (RQF) (L4DBIT) makes up the first year of the NCC Education degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of an IT degree in the UK university system.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop essential thinking and study skills in IT and business through a balance of academic and vocational subjects. They will be able to contribute to the development of computer systems and networks, databases and websites in a business context, whilst also developing an awareness of business needs. The qualification will allow them to understand and enter the IT and business profession with the necessary knowledge expected within the industry and the ability to apply the skills to a range of IT-related functions.

On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to embark on NCC Education’s Level 5 Diploma in Business Information Technology (RQF) (L5DBIT), which is equivalent to the second year of a UK Bachelor’s degree, transfer to a university or pursue a career in the IT industry.

Accreditation Status

NCC Education is regulated by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) to award the Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology (RQF) in England.

Entry Requirements

For entry into the L4DBIT qualification, students must have at least one of the following:

  • NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (RQF)

OR

  • NCC Education Level 3 Diploma in Business (RQF)

OR

  • NCC Education Level 3 Diploma in Computing (RQF)

OR

  • 1 GCE ‘A’ Level pass
    If a potential student’s first language is not English, they must also reach the English Language requirements of either:
  • IELTS min score of 5.5 or ESOL B2

OR

  • GCE ‘O’ Level English C6
    Mature applicants will also be considered for entry if they are able to demonstrate over two years of relevant work experience and have a GCE ‘O’ Level / IGCSE English and Maths or equivalent.

Level 4 Diploma in Business (L4DB)

The Level 4 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L4DB) makes up the first year of the NCC Education Business Degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of a business degree in the UK university system.

Students will be introduced to the many different aspects of international business in today’s world. Embarking on the qualification they will be exposed to both academic and vocational aspects of a wide range of subjects, enabling them to gain the necessary knowledge and skills vital for a career in business or further studies.

On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to continue their studies on the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L5DB) or at a UK university, or work in one of the many areas of the business world.

Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC)

Level 4 Diploma in Computing (RQF) (L4DC) makes up the first year of the NCC Education degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of an IT degree in the UK university system.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop essential thinking and study skills, not only within the computing domain, but also within the context of business through a balance of academic and vocational subjects. The qualification will allow them to understand and enter the computing profession with the necessary knowledge expected within the industry and the ability to apply the skills to a range of IT-related functions.

On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to embark on NCC Education’s Level 5 Diploma in Computing (RQF) (L5DC), which is equivalent to the second year of a UK Bachelor’s degree, transfer to a university or pursue a career in the IT industry.

Level 5 Diploma in Business Information Technology (L5DBIT)

The Level 5 Diploma in Business Information Technology (RQF) (L5DBIT) makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey and builds upon the knowledge gained during the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology. Students will be exposed to more advanced topics in a range of areas including information systems analysis, database development and the principles of business operations.

Students will study a balance of academic and vocational subjects in order to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to play a significant role in IT and business organisations.

On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to complete the final year of a degree with the NCC Education Business Computing and Information Systems Top Up validated by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), the University of Greenwich Business Information Technology Top Up delivered at our Accredited Partner Centres, at one of the many universities that recognise NCC Education qualifications, or pursue a career in the IT industry.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the NCC Education L5DBIT qualification students must have at least one of the following:

  • NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Business Information Technology (RQF) (L4DBIT) or an NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (RQF)(L4DC)

OR

  • A local or international qualification which is deemed to be of a similar level to the NCC Education L4DBIT qualification. This must be agreed with NCC Education in advance.

If a potential student whose first language is not English, they will need to obtain a valid score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or ESOL B2. Alternatively, take the free NCC Education Higher English Placement Test, which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centres.

Direct Entry at Other Points

The majority of students are expected to join the NCC Education Information Technology Journey at Level 4 or earlier. However, applications will be accepted for entry at any point and will be accepted, by means of documented evidence, using the following criteria:

  • The applicant’s general educational background is appropriate for the level of entry.
  • The applicant’s knowledge of computing is both equivalent to, and appropriate for, the level of entry.

Candidates must pass all 8 Units to be awarded the Level 5 Diploma in Business Information Technology certificate.

Level 5 Diploma in Business (L5DB)

The Level 5 Diploma in Computing (RQF) (L5DC) makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey and builds upon the knowledge gained during the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing. Exposing students to greater detail and more advanced topics in a range of areas including database development, information systems analysis, network security and cryptography.

Students will study a balance of academic and vocational subjects in order to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to play a significant role in IT organisations.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the NCC Education L5DC qualification students must have at least one of the following:

      • NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (RQF) (L4DC).

OR

      • A local or international qualification which is deemed to be of a similar level to the NCC Education L4DC qualification. This must be agreed with NCC Education in advance.
